Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth: Asian Edition

Global warming is getting crazier by the minute, and the former Vice President of the United States of America who is also a strong environment advocate is planning to give more awareness tips to Filipinos this June 8. Al Gore is coming to Manila to keynote a leadership conference as well as an environment awareness talk [an Asian version of An Inconvenient Truth]ย at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia.

Get ready for Al Gore

Tickets can be bought at Ticketnet or at certain SM branches. They are priced as follows: Platinum (15840 php), Gold (10560 php), Silver (5280 php), and Bronze (1056 php).

May I just make a quick comment on this? I think that the prices for the tickets are too high. I mean, I get the point that Al Gore is an international celebrity and therefore, SM needs to pay him a large amount of money for his transportation and for certain other expenses. Yes, I get that, but if Al Gore really wants to educate Filipinos on global warming and about the environment, I mean if he’s really sincere about this whole environment awareness thing, he’d give this talk for a smaller amount of money, if not free. I know the free part is impossible, so at least for a lower price. With the prices listed above, he’s just limiting the sharing of knowledge to the elite and the more privileged ones, that is, the wealthy people. So, does this mean that he’s only willing to give a lecture to people who are rich and who can afford an expensive ticket? Isn’t awareness something that should be shared to all, regardless of the status in life? If his lecture is marked by such a high price, he will only be able to reach out to the wealthy and not those who are in the middle class, the more those who are poor. If the prices are lower, then he’d be able to reach out to more people. Maybe, this time, most of the middle class can afford, and they’d be more willing to attend because it’s cheaper. Well, I don’t know. It’s just my opinion, and I’m questioning his sincerity on offering an environment awareness lecture.

Or, maybe, this is just SM’s way to make more money.

I don’t really know, but I would like to know. But, despite that, I am inviting everyone to attend this said conference if you’re interested, even for a bit, on knowing more about what’s happening with our environment and what you can do about it. Hey, you get a chance to meet Al Gore in person! That’s enough consolation for you to go. You don’t get to meet a former US vice president everyday. ๐Ÿ™‚

Hear him personally say the things that you've only heard on television

But, whether you’re going to the Al Gore event or not, please don’t forget to always take care of our environment. ๐Ÿ™‚ Let’s work on this global warming phenomenon together.
