A fun night filled with many wonderful moments, the 2010 MTV Movie Awards was a great success last night. Even though many of the winners were anticipated – yes, I’m talking about you Twilight – there were a lot of things that made the event a blast.
For one, Sandra Bullock is back on the red carpet after her short disappearance during the Jesse James scandal. And we are very happy to say that she is still the funny gal who left us a few weeks ago. Welcome back Sandy! And people, she would like to stress one fact: she is not dead. She is very much alive, and she’s not going anywhere.
And what else was present? Smoking performances! Katy Perry, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera brought us the hottest numbers on stage! Katy Perry gave us her first live performance of her newest single, “California Gurls”, during the show as she made her surfboard entrance at the start of the song. But, what’s up with Snoop Dogg? He looks like he just got out of bed. His outfit was just like so trashy. Sorry dude, but you’re in an awards night, not in a midnight jamming session, so you might want to dress up a little bit. At least put on some beach outfit. And I’ sure you don’t go to the beach wearing long socks!
J. Lo had all eyes on her when she threw sexiness all over the stage as she danced “Get Right” with Tom Cruise/Les Grossman. Hey, who knew Tom could do a split? Yeah, yeah, break it down, yo!
And Christina Aguilera? She totally stole the spotlight! It was just amazing! Hotness in the air!
If you missed those three… well… how could you miss such spectacular performances?! And did I say how stunning their outfits were? Well, okay, they were fantabulous! Even Paris Hilton is at awe! Anyway, let’s go over last night’s winners, shall we?
Best Female Performance – Kristin Stewart (Twilight Saga: New Moon)
Is this even a surprise? I bet even Kristen knew she was going to win. Like come on, guys, these past few years have been like Twilight years for all the people out there. If we’re talking about awards that are fan-based, meaning it’s based on votation, Twilight is set to win in almost all categories. But, hey Kristen, what’s up with your speech? You just went up, babbled a bit, and stepped right back down. We already know how awesome Twilight is, so we don’t need you to stress that for us.
Best Male Performance – Robert Pattinson (Twilight Saga: New Moon)
Should I say it again? How this is so not surprising too? Too bad, Taylor Lautner didn’t win. Looks like Team Edward’s more powerful than Team Jacob.
Best Breakout Star: Anna Kendrick (Up In The Air)
“This is definitely going to my coffee table.” Wow, Anna, that’s some place to put your popcorn award. You know, they call that a coffee table for a reason. But, hey, that’s your award, so it’s totally up to you what you want to do with it. I’m just saying.
Best Scared-Ass-S**t Performance: Amanda Seyfried (Jennifer’s Body)
I think this was kinda surprising because, as Amanda said, not a lot people watched this movie, but I’m happy for her because she got at least an award after being nominated for so many categories. Did you guys notice how she was so distracted by the Popcorn Man? Oh yeah, she was! She was staring at it! You bad popcorn man, distracting Amanda like that.
Best Kiss: Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson (Twilight Saga: New Moon)
And they did it again! They are still the reigning couple for the ‘Best Kiss’ category. Good job! And you know what else they did again? Doing an unnecessary drama onstage. They just had to make a big deal of them kissing, especially Kristen. Last year, they took around 3 minutes just to have Rob kiss Kristen on the forehead, like what the hell was that all about? And this year, they spent another 3 minutes just to give us a kiss. At least this time there was a short peck. Like come on, it’s not that you’ve never kissed before. Be more like Zac and Vanessa. When the kiss cam focused on them, they just kissed.
If I were to present this award, I’d give it to Russell Brand and Jonah Hill. Man, they were hilarious! When the kiss cam got them, they kissed to their hearts’ content. Those guys. Katy Perry must be proud.
Best WTF moment: Ken Jeong (The Hangover)
Is this the first time that an Asian won a MTV movie award? I’m not so sure, but I’m guessing yes? Good job Ken!
Best Villain: Tom Felton (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince)
Well, finally, Draco Malfoy’s being recognized as a villain! After so many years in the Harry Potter series, he hasn’t been receiving much recognition for his effort as a villain. It’s always He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named (or Voldemort, dammit). Draco may not be the biggest and baddest villain, but he sure is the first.
Best Badass Star: Rain (Ninja Assassin)
Another Asian to win an award! Wow, looks like Hollywood’s Asians are raising their flags this year at the MTV Movie Awards! And ain’t that great? We’re having more variety in the celebrities now. We’re not just looking at Americans, Canadians, and Spanish.
Global Superstar: Robert Pattinson
Another win for Ed Cullen! What can I say? People just love him so much that they just can’t give him enough awards.
Best Comedic Performance: Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover)
I seriously have a problem with pronouncing this guy’s last name. That’s some serious tongue twister for me. But, who cares? He’s hilarious! He’s so deserving of this award! Too bad he wasn’t there to receive it, so Aziz Ansari a.k.a. Taavon took it for him.
Best Fight: Beyonce Knowles vs. Ali Larter (Obsessed)
One question: why isn’t this award presented in the formal ceremony? It was just announced by Snooki on the red carpet a few minutes before the Movie Awards formally began. Okay, that was weird. But, neither Beyonce nor Ali was there to get the award, so I guess it’s okay.
Best Movie: Twilight Saga: New Moon
Let me say it again: this is so expected! So does this mean that next year, they’ll sweep all (almost) awards again for Eclipse? Well, I would really love to see new winners, so sorry Twilight, I don’t want to have another Twilight year for 2011’s MTV Movie Awards.
MTV Generation Award: Sandra Bullock
Who doesn’t love Sandy? Don’t we all have a soft spot for this Hollywood darling? We sure know Scarlett Johansson has when she and Sandra shared a passionate kiss after the latter made her speech. So, that’s what she was there for! Well, at least after standing awkwardly up there for who knows how long with Bradley Cooper and Betty White who were paying tribute to Ms. Bullock, Scarlett made sense of her presence. She said her hubby, Ryan Reynolds, couldn’t make it so she was there to fill in for him. Well, what can I say? You sure make a good substitute, Scarlett. You may have appeared like an ornament at the start, but who cares? Scarlett + Sandra = HOT! Really, it beat Sandra kissing Meryl Streep at the 15th Annual Critics’ Choice Movie Awards! So, maybe Scarlett and Sandy should have won the best kiss award? Well, I wouldn’t object. Would you?
Look at Scarlett. She’s so cute when she was inching her way towards Sandra. Aww… And what a way to convince everyone to go back to normal, Sandra! Now, I’m sure she’s really back! As in back to being one of the best entertainers I know and loved. Congratulations dear! You deserve the MTV Generation Award. You have been one of the most flexible actresses in the business, and whether you’re doing comedy or drama, you continue to amaze us with your talent. We hope to see you in more movies in the future.
So, okay, none of my bets won! Seriously, as in a big fat zero! I can’t believe it! Well, actually I can since I didn’t vote for any Twilight-related nominee. I should’ve known that they’d be the voters’ favorite, but well, I just thought that maybe the others stand a chance. I’m really saddened that two of my favorites, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, didn’t win. But even so, I would like to extend my congratulations to all the winners of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards! A big applause to all of you! And Aziz, congratulations on your hosting! You did a pretty good job! You were really funny.
