It started out as some random rumor that sent people (especially Filipinos) reacting wildly, both in good and in bad ways. Fans of the young Filipino singing sensation felt so happy and excited for her while her haters let out gasps and words of disbelief and, you guessed it, hatred upon the release of the “report” that stated Charice’s participation the second season of what is the world’s favorite TV musical today, Glee.
And with that first internet wildfire, looks like the haters got their prayers answered. Charice even denied the “news” herself by tweeting that it was all just a hoax. Must have been a moment of rejoice for all the people who dislike her out there and one of disappointment for her biggest supporters.
But, not for long.
Just a week ago, the tables were turned, and it looks like this time Charice Pempengco is joining Glee for real. She made the auditions (that’s no shocker, really), and we heard she’s playing Rachel Berry’s newest rival on the show. In terms of singing, of course. Now that’s what I would call a hot competition! Looks like we’ve got some explosive showdown to look forward to in the next season! It’s the clash of two singing divas!
What will Rachel do now that some foreign exchange student signed up as her new challenger? Will Charice only steal the singing spotlight of Rachel or will she also steal the latter’s man? Well, we heard she’s going to catch the eye of one of the boys. We’re just not sure if it’s Finn. But for all we know, it might be Finn. Looks like we’re about to see Rachel unleash her rage.
But, I’m guessing the guy won’t be Finn. I don’t know. I just like Charice to end up with Mike Chang (also known as “the other Asian”). And it would be very predictable too if the guy was Finn or Puck. Right? (Or Charice could be dating Jesse…?)
But, the real question that’s surrounding this news isn’t what character Charice is going to play or how will Rachel react to Charice’s presence and performance but how will the audience respond to this new character. Will Glee get a positive response or a negative one? Will the ratings go higher or lower while Charice is the guest star? As we know, most people in the United States actually love her because of her outstanding performances in different events (such as the Oscar’s) and of course, during the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
However, the case is not the same with her fellow Filipinos. She may have many supporters, but she’s also got plenty of haters back in her hometown. And Glee has a lot viewers from the Philippines, so will Charice’s appearance rock the show’s boat? I’ve heard a few people say that they’re no longer excited for Glee’s next season because of her, but I’ve also heard some that the casting of Charice is giving them more reason to watch this coming September.
I’m no fan of Charice, but I’m no hater as well.
So, with or without Charice, I’m just excited for the second season of Glee.
My only opinion is: Glee made a risky decision when they decided to put Charice on the show.
Well, what about you? What do you think?
Do you want her on Glee or the show’s better off without her?
